Perth becomes Scotland's first 'Slow City'
09/03/2007
The city of Perth is today celebrating after becoming the first Scottish town to join the Slow Food movement’s Cittaslow network.
The city’s new Cittaslow title (Italian for ‘Slow City’) means that it joins a network of more than 100 cities across Europe dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents, with support for local food producers, environmental schemes and protection of local traditions.
The Perth and Kinross Cittaslow Steering Group, which includes representatives from the region’s Hoteliers and Restaurateurs Association, Agricultural Forum and Farmers Market, is now planning to set up a Perthshire Slow Food Convivium.
