A demand for healthy foods among consumers has led to a rapid rise in sales of mussels, according to new figures.

Sales of the shellfish have soared by nearly 20 per cent in the last year, says the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group study, as consumers become more aware of their health benefits, such as high levels of iron and zinc.
