– Tom Kitchin, chef-proprietor of The Kitchin, in Edinburgh, is the overall winner of this year’s Scottish Chef Awards – the youngest chef to have won the award at 29. Jacqueline O'Donnell, of Sisters restaurant in Kelvingrove, was named City Chef of the Year at the Scottish Chef Awards. The other winners were:
Restaurant Chef of the Year Keith Marley, La Pontiniere, Gullane
Hotel Chef of the Year Ian McNaught, Roman Camp Hotel, Callander
Rural Chef of the Year Russell Robertson, The Linen Room, Dumfries
New Restaurant of the Year Loic Lefebvre, Abstract, Edinburgh
Casual Dining Award Geoff Cook, Sheriffmuir Inn, Dunblane
Gastro Pub of the Year Craig Wilson, Eat on the Green, Udny
Gourmet Dinner (over £50) Neil Clark, Etain, Glasgow
Gourmet Dinner (under £50) Ashley Gallant, Culter Mill Restaurant, Biggar
Young Chef of the Year Grant McNicol, Dornoch Castle hotel and Nigel Liston, Alchemy, Dundee (joint winners)
– Edinburgh restaurateur Tony Crolla is to open a new Italian restaurant, called Vittoria, on George IV Bridge.
– Tearoom, restaurant and confectioners Plaisir du Chocolat, in Edinburgh, has been placed in administration because the business has "run out of money". It's said the accountants hope the business can be rescued by a buyer who can make it more efficient. French chocolatier Bertrand Espouy, who runs the business with his Canadian-born wife, Heather Kiernan, were said to be "very upset”.
