Local food wins out for Alastair

"The restaurant I consistently go back to is Rocpool in Inverness. We have a holiday house there and we usually manage at least one meal at the restaurant each time we go up. The food is good value, especially at lunchtime, with reliance on local, seasonal produce and the cooking style is fresh and modern without being pretentious. It has a good wine list at reasonable prices and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and informal with knowledgeable and cheerful staff."

Alastair Scoular owns the Steam Packet Inn, on the Isle of Whithorn, in Wigtownshire, which has been run by his family for the last 25 years. The pub is famous for its fish and chips and has won awards a clutch of awards for its food and drink.
