GLASGOW'S George Square is being transformed this weekend into
Scotland's biggest food and drink show.

More than 20,000 people are expected through the doors for the Tesco
Enjoy the Taste of Scotland event to meet with more than 100 of the
country's biggest food and drink suppliers.

Tesco Chairman David Reid and Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will
open the event on Friday afternoon.

The public and guests will also get the chance to see chefs like Nick
Nairn and Tom Kitchin, who is currently cooking on BBC 2's The Great
British Menu, as well as Scotland's only two-star Michelin chef Andrew
Fairlie.

This is the first year the event, previously held in Edinburgh, has been
held in Glasgow.

Amongst the companies exhibiting will be Tennents, who will give the
public one of their first chances to try their new 1885 lager.

Meanwhile, Macsweens are going to showing off their haggis in slightly
exotic dishes - showing how the classic Scottish ingredient blends in
well with South African dishes.

Other highlights will include Mull-based Island Bakery Organics inviting
visitors to suggest names for a couple of new products.

And there will be a strong strawberry-flavour to the event with THREE
companies revealing new strawberry products:

* Lee's of Scotland will showcase its new low calorie fat free
treat, the Light Strawberry Meringue Bar.
* The Golden Casket Group will be offering samples of its new
strawberry yoghurt flavour Millions sweets.
* Arbroath-based Mackays will also tickle the tastebuds with its
delicious new Scottish Strawberry preserve.

Tesco's Scottish Marketing Manager Angus Bell said: "This event allows
us to showcase the wide range of Scottish products available in our
stores, as well as to demonstrate the unique ways in which some of
Scotland's top chefs use these home-grown products to make
mouth-watering dishes."

Entry to the event is free to the public and the George Square tent is

open from 10am on Saturday and Sunday.
